mother's day camping

We went camping this weekend. It was so fun. We did s'mores twice.

I was really concerned about where we camped because of flooding (40% chance of thunderstorms). I did not want to be close to the river and I wanted to make sure that we were on high ground. Well, as it turns out the campsite closest to the river was the most appealing. So, we set up camp there on the highest ground on the lot. It started raining at 11pm and didn't stop all night. I was really nervous all night. I peaked out of the tent but couldn't really see anything but the rain right in front of me. A combination of nerves and a crowded tent, neither Ryan or I slept very well. Our stuff got slightly damp... but we didn't get washed away in the river! And, we were much drier than other campers farther from the river. :) The next night was much better.

Then we went on a hike. We saw a river...

we tried to find a bear but couldn't find one.

Then we got to watch a man tag humming birds!
In this picture the hummingbird is wrapped up in that grey cloth. He would weigh them.
.. and measure them.

Females have white on their tail.
males have a red/orange neck.
After he was done he would put the bird on someone's hand and let it rest there until it wanted to leave. This particular bird wanted to take his afternoon nap right on my hand.
I had to roll it over onto its feet and still it sat there for a while- so I shook my hand and it finally flew away. That was a neat experience.

What drew us to the Onondaga state park were the caves. 2nd largest cave in Missouri. Pictures didn't turn out of the inside but it was extremely cool. You can see pictures on google

easter egg hunt

We love Eloise. Everyday Dennis asks to go to Eloise's house at least twice. They have so much fun playing together.
Today we played at her house and then we went to hunt for easter eggs.
Guess what!? We found some.


Besides the fact that it was so COLD out today, we had a blast.
