A month ago or so Ryan decided that being a "PI" wasn't what he wanted to do as a career. Now, that might not make any sense to some of our readers... basically, Ryan was accepted to Medical School at WashU and decided after the first 2 years that he wanted to do a year of research and get his masters- which then turned into getting his PhD of which meant that we would add 4-5 years onto the 4 years of med school and he would become a researcher/scientist/professor/doctor. During his research he watched his boss (PI) and realized that what he liked to do was actual research- when his boss was spending most of his time writing grants, managing his lab and going to meetings. After a lot of thought, he decided that it wasn't for him.
So... Ryan quit. He will be starting 3rd year of Med school early! This is so great because he will be able to space it out a little bit more. 3rd year is the most time intensive year where Ryan will be in the hospital on rotations. And, he will graduate in 2 years!!!! Yay!!!
